Fatal Frame V: Chapter Titles Gallery

Intro Chapter: Mikomori

Director's Comment
We start off with a scenic shot of the mountain, reinforcing the impression that this is where the game is set. The reason it was titled "Mikomori" is because it begins with a movie of Miu submerged in water with hair drifting through it. That scene was made with the intro of Tarkovsky's movie "Solaris" in mind.

Chapter 1: Zanei

Director's Comment
In her heart, Yuuri is always standing on the edge of that cliff at sundown. It includes both themes of "dying alone" and "unable to cry" in one, so you can see the hesitation in her eyes. I also wanted to show off the key colour of sunset orange.

Chapter 2: Mt. Hikami

Director's Comment
In order to make it stand out that Fuyuhi's blood has been spilled we gave her white clothes with a pretty neck, but it was also designed to fit with scenes like this, where she stands beside the water. I was considering using the title "Shirazu Forest", but wanted to make an impression of the mountain's name.

Chapter 3: Burial Photos

Director's Comment
This photo was meant to be one of the burial photos takes by Dr. Asou. It's a kind of image-only thing, of a girl in a box who doesn't appear in the game, so we took the photo, which was at first clear, and corroded it so you can't tell who it's of.

Intermission Chapter: Kagemi

Director's Comment
The title is read "Awai no Shizuku". It didn't sink in during development, but I was fond of the nuance. Perhaps the antiques shop interior would have been more fitting in terms of the story, but I wanted to put the mountain scenery at sunset in there somewhere.

Chapter 4: Spiriting Away

Director's Comment
I thought it would spoil her having been spirited away and put inside a box as a result, but I wanted to make a key point of this hand, and make you want to save her, which is why we used this image. It also, however, has black water coming out of it, not making you want to get any closer...

Chapter 5: Mayoiga

Director's Comment
A box, left seemingly forgotten inside an abandoned Japanese house where time has come to a standstill. The box is supposed to look as though waiting for someone. I supposed that Keiji Watarai was inside it.

Chapter 6: Tokoshiebana

Director's Comment
An image of a Kagome. Things that use suichuka will never wilt. The Kagome attack as though they are moving through the water. The reason they don't age inside their boxes also comes from the image of a suichuka.

Chapter 7: Ouse

Director's Comment
This shows a key image of Ouse - dressed in black bridal attire, waiting for someone atop an infinite expanse of water. She's the final boss, so we gave her the impression of not only being scary, but also a dignified appearance.

Chapter 8: Omagatoki

Director's Comment
A ghost, shown on the CCTV camera, standing by the backdoor. At first we also had a surveillance camera set up in the bathroom, and a ghost would come out of the water, which had at some point turned black, and for some reason Yuuri's bathing scene would play, and when you went there you would find a strong ghost.

Chapter 9: Hitsugi Kago

Director's Comment
The first time you go to the Box Mound is in Chapter 7, so this was made for that chapter, but in order to put emphasis on the first time you meet Ouse we swapped them. By the way, we planned to have an intermission chapter between chapters 8 and 9, in which you would puruse the mysteries of the Camera Obscura.

Chapter 10: Yuukon

Director's Comment
A bride earnestly awaits her groom in the Room of Matrimony. I thought of having her also be wet, but I thought it would be too hard to tell, given the size of the image, so focused my attentions on her pretty white kimono

Chapter 11: Yomiko

Director's Comment
Miu and Miku, embracing as they fall. It was created from an image taken from the cutscene at the end of this mission, but now that I think about it, we also had an ending where Miu and Miku fell into the water whilst embracing.

Chapter 12: Higanbune

Director's Comment
Yuuri riding the higanbune to Minakami Shrine, which vanished after the disaster. Like in Shisei no Koe, we had the image of the underworld being across the water, so she needed to get on a boat. We also planned a fight atop the boat that would have her pulled into the water, but it was cut.

Chapter 13: Magatsuhi

Director's Comment
Hair is wrapped around the window, making it impossible to leave. The street is filled with foes. The street in front of Antiques & Cafe Kurosawa is supposed to be in Hida-Takayama, and the interior is meant to look like a traditional Kyoto townhouse remodelled into an antiques shop. A "sunset that shouldn't be there", suddenly appearing in the middle of the night, is based on an experience of mine.

Final Chapter: Bride of Yomi

Director's Comment
Ouse continues falling eternallty through the yomi. Her arm is outstretched upwards, hoping for someone to reach out their hand and stop her. Originally, Ouse was blackened by Yomi Nure as she fell, but I wanted the chapter title to have a beautiful image to it.

Ayane Chapter 1: Visitor in the Rain ~ Final Chapter: Hanaikada

Director's Comment
The image that is used for all of Ayane's mission. It's also used in the first chapter, where her face hasn't been shown yet, so the focus is not on her face but on the symbolic gameplay parts, the Concealing Script and Purple Thread. I also think we managed to make Ayane's body line look attractive.
