Fatal Frame II: Points/Damage Calculation Formula

This is an explanation of how to calculate the damage inflicted and points earned upon photographing a ghost during battle. Damage is determined by spirit power charge and film type used, and depletes the ghost's HP, which is the base. Points are calculated by multiplying damage by 10 - in other words, the higher the damage you deal, the more points you will get. There are special bonuses you can earn for both, which will add to your final score. The actual formula described is quite tricky, but it should help you to understand how to get high scores.

Damage: influenced by film and power-up lenses

Formula for Calculating Damage
  • Damage =
  • Spirit Power charge (0~100%) x film damage
  • Shutter Chance damage =
  • base damage x2
  • Damage using power-up lens (normal) =
  • base damage x power-up lens multiplier
  • Damage using power-up lens (Fatal Frame) =
  • {base damage x2} x power-up lens multiplier

Base damage is determined by the amount of spirit power charged and the film type used, doubled if a Shutter Chance, and also increased if using a power-up lens, which determins your final damage. A power-up lens' effect differs according to what level it is, and whether a normal shot or Shutter Chance was taken. If you want to deal massive damage, equipping Type-Zero film and use a Level 3 power-up lens - "Blast" for a normal shot, "Crush" for a Shutter Chance - is best.

Points: influenced by shots and combos

    Formula for Calculating Points
  • Base points = damage x10
  • Combined points =
  • {base points + shot bonus}
    x multiplier from combos

Points are multiplied by the damage as shown above by 10, which gives you base score, to which you can add bonuses by taking special shots and combo multipliers to reach your final score. There are various types of shot with different outcomes - for example, Zero + Special + Core adds a modifier of 10%.

    Shot Additional bonus
Zero Shot + 5% base points
Special Shot + 3% base points
Core Shot + 2% base points
